"Allerdyce took so much dough out of them that it was inevitable "

No it wasn't, they employed shit managers and got relegated, the same as QPR

Doesn't matter what money you spend if your manager is shit. Both clubs are paying the price

Maybe but he had them over for a long time and I bet he is still earning in some of those Curtis deals 👀

Pretty much all of them, I think.

A decade ago Stoke had less than 15k average attendance.

Possibly, but its difficult to compare teams a different ends of the spectrum in terms of current situation.. Go back 10 years and Bolton were on the up, Stoke were probably struggling to fill their ground.

Re: Bolton - be carefully what you wish for
I think you also have to take into account BFS left Bolton in SEVENTH in the PL, in Europe and with prize money of £25m

They had a wage bill £30.7m (16th highest) so that's a gap of £5.7m to find from the gate, commercial, sponsorship etc etc

Re: Bolton - be carefully what you wish for
Croe Tottenham sounded the bald money because they replaced Arnesen with comoli who clearly wasn't up to the job
Liverpool didn't nearly win the league off the back of one player they nearly won it because they had a brilliant front three Suarez was clearly the best but Sturridge and sterling who they bought for under 15mill
I'm pretty sure there's hundreds of clubs on the continent that will disagree with you

Good, glad to see you say you can't quantify their debt but if you look at their accounts, it's all there, just don't ask me to analyse all of it because I'm shit where finances are concerned but I can read the debt column

Re: Bolton - be carefully what you wish for
"most are pretty fucked"

Blackburn? Nope

Newcastle? Nope

West Ham United? Nope

So only really Bolton and that for me has very little to do with BFS and more to do with picking bad managers after bad managers.

Norflundon 8:10 Mon Jan 18
Re: Bolton - be carefully what you wish for
TBF they had a bloke bank rolling the club who let BFS and gartside run wild fuck how much is down to who as unless your a forensic account nobody from the outside can quantify the debt
But one thing you look at all the clubs him and twitchy were at and there a common theme most are pretty fucked

Do you not think they are bigger in terms of (loyal) fanbase?

Loyal being the operative word here.

Stoke only have Port Vale as a local rival, whereas Wigan and Bolton are both pretty small fish in a red and sky blue coloured sea. I expect Stoke have the luxury of lots more local support.

I don't buy into that really, Curtis got dropped by Carroll whilst Allardyce was at the club didn't he?

I'm not sure how big a record Curtis has for poaching clients in comparison to others either. Whilst Allardyce could in theory get a sweetner for a recommendation for the agent, it is Sullivan that does the negotiations not the manager.

I don't think we struggled for signings either, we got promoted and four midtable finishes whilst he was here, with us operating at a profit for 2 or 3 of those seasons. Whilst our wage bill has increased so has our turnover and ability to attract better players.

Any odd deals that happened using Curtis wouldn't have amounted to much payoff for the manager either, which would have been at the detriment of Allardyce to have players on over inflated wages as FFP wage restrictions came in to force too.

Re: Bolton - be carefully what you wish for

"TBF Tottenham went from mid table and relegation battles to challenging for the top 4 with a DOF until Arnesen went to Chelsea where he did very well"

Spurs have had a load of managers and have done great with player trading (mostly down to the cunt Levy) BUT their DOF spunked the Bale money and now the manager has the final say because they were buying players the manager didn't want.

"Liverpool also nearly won the league with a DOF"

Haha, Liverpool almost won the league on the back of an amazing season from one player who was playing out of this world and he was brought to the club by King Kenny.

They have spunked untold cash on duds, something Rodgers complained about and was a factor in costing him his job.

Managers should have the final say on the players the club buys and sells.

Bolton have won the FA Cup 4 times including one against us, the most Stoke has won is 1 League Cup

But how can you tie that debt down to contracts alone, there's other debt like paying for the Reebok for instance?

Here's an Allardyce's one about Bolton to try for size. How about the idea that if he had never been their manager they would never have got into the Premiership or played in Europe.

Scorchio, Stoke are not any bigger club than Bolton, they have just been run better in recent years and ensured that they've strengthened to remain in the Premier League.

That is true, back in the day. But obviously it's not the case nowadays. Probably before both 'Manchester' clubs were superclubs and started hoovering up everyone from the greater Manchester area.

Obviously there's a loyal core of fans, but sadly a lot who are only there for the good times.

Son of Anarchy 7:53 Mon Jan 18
Re: Bolton - be carefully what you wish for
The contenders to the Premier League billions have to over pay good but not great players in order to attract them.

Take Man City for example, before they cracked the top four Toure, Ballotelli, Silva, Robinho were on massive money to play for a mid table club.

We had to pay Nolan, Fulham paid Chris Coleman shit loads!

Bolton are fucked if they're outside the top flight as they have United just up the road.

It's Sam Allardyce's fault? only on WHO
